It'd be brilliant if there was a special SetCustomFace command or something similar, so we could edit AI faces without having to make a mod. I am aware of the SetFace command - but that has its limitations (do we still get blue skin on that too?)

I think it'd best as a custom face in the mission folder - just like the setobjecttexture.

I still think this would be an awesome addition for mission makers. As well, it'd be nice to lose the notorious 'blue man' effect that occurs with the custom face.
