When you hover the mouse pointer over the editing mode icons on the left hand side it would be handy for new users if each icon displayed a short tool tip describing it and it's corresponding function key shortcut.

It would also be good if the mouse pointer icon itself changed to represent the current editing mode - for example, instead of constantly having the mouse pointer as an arrow it would change to, say, a 'chain link' pointer icon when you selected sync mode so that you would be reminded which editing mode you are in. Obviously the mouse icon would change to represent the current editing mode selected.
