Arma 3 - PhysX - and ATI Video Cards
New, WishlistPublic

Description

Hey Guys, I know this is last minute but I feel very important. Thru much research, trial and error, forums, and personal observation, I have discovered that ATI video cards do not run Phys-x well and in some cases with some games, not at all. I have an ATI Redeon HD 7970 with Eyefinity for 3 monitors and your game chokes my card which it shouldn't. Even at low settings when there is dust, smoke, explosions, I get about 2 to 4 frames per second. So bad I have had to quit playing. Recently after playing another game I had the same problem and after researching a forum it said to turn the PhysX off in the particular game if I had an ATI card. Well I did and the game ran perfectly. Do some research. You will discover this as well. ATI Video cards do not run PhysX well. You have to make it available to turn PhysX OFF in the video settings or people with a video card like mine, Radeon HD 7979 or even the new 7990 will have problems running the game. They were so bad for me I had no choice but to stop playing and I love Arma. again I was getting at times 2 to 4 FPS at explosions, dust, or nearby smoke.

AFAIK if your video card is not NVIDIA, PhysX computing is handled by CPU. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5870 card. Playing VERY HIGH @ 1080p one monitor, no such issue. Using Catalyst 13.4. I believe PhysX in ArmA 3 can not be turned off as it is part of gameplay (vehicles behaviour for example). What is your CPU, driver version. Try it on 1 monitor. Try different driver versions. Wait for newest beta driver to support ArmA 3 Eyefinity.

am HD 7970 on 3 monitors. I am also running Catalyst 13.4 my spect are

Any thoughts?

Nope. Maybe your hardware is not properly recognized. Or too powerful :)
Try this command line parameters for a start. If it works adjust them.
-maxMem=4096 -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7.
Or try to find problem more precisely. For example go to AA & PP video settings and turn all options to disabled and sliders to 0. Restart game. If it fixes the problem start turning on options one by one to find the cause.
Try also latest 13.10 Beta driver.

I have a stutter with lot of smoke grenades around (8-10) but not dropping lower ~20fps.

PhysX is handled by your CPU in Arma 3.
