Considerations for Campaign/Single Missions
New, WishlistPublic

Description

Single player has always been a big part of Arma experience thanks to the tremendously advanced AI the games implement. For that reason, an effort should be made to create the single player campaign/single missions that will stay on the level of previous Arma games. Arma: Cold War Assault probably had the best overall campaign in all of the series. For that reason, some guidelines should be followed to make the Arma 3 campaign storyline more like the Cold War Assault campaign:

-Campaign/mission length: It's better to have about 30 missions which will take 15-30 minutes to complete, than having only 10 missions which might take from 15 minutes to several hours to finish. Also a "Dogs of War" -like huge mission would be great to implement in the end.

-Variety of missions: Although several different specialist characters would be great for this purpose, the campaign missions will need to have some variety in them. Simple infantry assaults, combined operations, convoy missions, stealthy strikes/assassinations, escapes, town defenses, ambushes, recon, large-scale high command operations etc. Also some of the side objectives could be randomized to make the bigger missions different to play each time.

-Deeper insight to the game's main characters to make them feel more "living": Random chatter, conversations, background info, diary etc. Morale effecting the actions of the AI soldiers in combat based on their skill and rank.

-Better employment of suppression: In each of the previous Arma games, the effect of suppression hasn't been made to the point it should be. The AI is always using point or area fire, but never really suppressing the enemy forces. If this could be implemented properly, it would make possible to have the AI to "break" under fire and have other effects based on their morale.

-Increase AI vehicle survivability: Combined arms assets like helicopters and motorized vehicles often have a tendency to just run straight through the enemy defenses and get themselves killed very quickly. It would be better if they would stay as far back from the enemy positions as possible and provide better overwatch and fire support.

-Independent boot camp missions, single missions with different roles/specialisations, and Armory mode with random objectives and the possibility to play with a AI fireteam or squad.

"-Many different endings like in the previous games; more choices for the player to make with more significant repercussions. Branching of the campaign missions resulting from previous victory/defeat."

The Devs already said they want to make a simple campaign with just one ending.

Ok, thanks for the info. I didn't know about that.

And how about removing that part of the ticket?

I would love to see an Armory Mode in Arma 3.
