PC Hang with FSAA activated
New, WishlistPublic

Description

Hi,

I have a ASUS Radeon HD 7970 DCU2. When I active the FSAA to 8X and ATOC options, my PC Crashs and hang, after I need to press the button reset to restart.

To Fix the problem, I put FSAA to disable.

I have a lot of games without problems running at HD 7970 DCU2. Only ARMA3 and FSAA8X+ATOC freezes the PC.

I'm crazy with this problem.

using ATI and ANY KIND of AA or any filter its a REALLY REALLY REALLY bad idea, trust me, i am talking 'bout experience

I don't have problems with other games and Anti Aliasing. Is mandatory to use FSAA 0X with Radeons on Arma3?

I'm concern about this, because I paid a expensive card and I can't to play with max settings on Arma3 (my love). =(

Unknown Object (User) added a comment.Aug 1 2013, 5:08 AM

daw, dont be so sad, its personal opinion, but i HATE AA and all the filters, besides, in my 6950 i have problems with it in many other games too, so its not so much about having max settings but activating a resource-hog that breaks ATI cards that make objects far away look blurry so you dont see the pixels, wich, literally, does the same as lowering the textures far away, they did the same in the console ver. of Sleeping Dogs, barely anyone realized they were low Q textures.

Seriously? NO OTHER GAME? with AA on ArmA 1 would half my FPS by just looking at vegetation and GTA IV would start making my screen flicker and the sky red

yes, I don't have problems with no other game. Always MSAA 8X or SMAA 4X and good FPS. My Card is a GCN, a "new" generation, with much more power processing.

HD 6950 is very weak card to process anti-aliasing in a modern game.

Unknown Object (User) added a comment.Aug 1 2013, 7:33 PM

HA! 6950 weak? maybe comparing to modern cards, but still it renders ArmA 3 maxed out, crysis 3, FSX, BF3 and LA noire maxed out with 40 or more FPS, not being the best in the market doesn't mean its weak for games, mdoern hardware companies try to make expensive and powerful graphic cards even if games won't need it for 4 years just so people who can waste money buy them for no reason at all.

And yes, ATI is known for having shitty filter/AA compatibility

Update.

I get to test a RAdeon R9 280X and the problem gone. back to HD 7970, the problem (BSOD) return's when I hit the MAP key sometimes. Now, I'm using Windows 8.1-64 bits.

no other game gives problem with my ASUS HD 7970 , including BF4, Metro LL, BF3, FarCry3, Max Payne, Bioshock, AssCreed series, SplinterCellBlackList.....

below the crash problem on my display.

this is a great mystery.

Update 2. the problem happens only when I use FSAA and ATOC:

Also happens with my R9-280X ASUS CU TOP card. exact same effect.
Will try out without FSAA ATOC

I can also confirm that disabling AA/ATOC resolves this issue with my R9 280x.

Hmm, Issue seems to have returned but is now extremely infrequent.

Check that, seems to be happening once a night giver or take again :/

My last hope is the next update of Arma3. ://

Now, I'm testing with a Radeon R9 290X and I get crashs (BSOD), a lot of them...

No problem with NVIDIA.

Update:

A lot of crashs with last version of Arma3 and last version of Catalyst, the 14.1.

Now, with FSAA or without FSAA, the PC crashes using R9 290X or HD7970.

I'm crazy with this bug. I'm not playing more Arma3.

Help Bohemia, please. =( =( =( =(

I'm still getting this problem too.
