AMV-7 Gunner too liberal with Autocannon and misses too often
Assigned, WishlistPublic

Description

The AMV-7 has only few shots of ammo compared to the competitors, which is realistic.

However, the AI handling of this Vehicles weapons is distinctly unrealistic. Instead of using it as intended, single shot "sniping" against individual targets or two to three round bursts, with waiting for BDA (meaning watching the rounds impact on target and then adjusting), the AI simply fires the autocannon constantly at a single target, no matter the range, at full auto until all rounds are expended.

Additionally, especially against infantry targets, the AMV-7 is often very apt to miss its targets and have little more effect than an infantryman with its cannon, ie, it kills two or three targets and then runs out of ammo.

This behaviour should be adressed.

Steps To Reproduce

Place AMV-7, place one enemy Ifrit and one enemy rifle squad at 1 km distance, let both attack the AMV. The AMV will kill the Ifrit quickly with its cannon, and then blunder about with its cannon more often than not, getting only a handful of kills.

Additional Information

The behaviour of the AMV-7 in the combined arms demo only occasionally seems to behave this way, if it survives the initial five seconds. In editor based missions, my observation bias tells me this behaviour dominates (of wasting ammo and missing targets, mostly by overshooting or not leading the target correctly)

Note: A couple of test runs done, and the current patch makes the AMV use the MG more liberally against Infantry.

However, he overshoots consistently with the cannon: in pretty much all kills against targets standing up, the hits were glancing headshots. He also overshoots vehicle targets by a bit (Ifrits are often hit in their RCWS rather than the hull when they are level with the AMV and closeby. At longer ranges, misses are more because of bad leading and not waiting for the target to stay still.)

I'm not sure if it's related or it's another issue but I've noticed yesterday that once an AI gunner runs out of ammo with main auto-cannon, he doesn't switch to other weapons (i.e. MG). He just stands there, not shooting anymore. Also, I've not received any warning of "Out of ammo" from the gunner NPC.
