Attack Helicopters - Incorrectly Placed Optical views/Missing Animations
Reviewed, WishlistPublic

Description

RAH-99 and MI-48 both have completely incorrectly placed Optical views. In the RAH-99, the muzzleflash from the cannon even appears right in the middle of your screen in zoomed out view. Furthermore, optical sensor pods in both Helicopters are missing animations and at least in the case of the RAH-99, incorrect texture/model features (Not bad problem compared to the wrongly placed Optics and missing FCS.)

Fig. 3: RAH-99 Nose side-view with labelled optical Axes, see above for color codes for arrows.

Fig. 4: RAH-99 Gunners View in same position as Fig. 3. Note position of crosshairs versus angle of gun and height over ground, when relating to the cones.

Fig. 5: MI-48 Nose side-view with labelled optical Axes, colors as above.

Fig. 6: MI-48 Gunners view in same position as Fig. 5. Again, note position of crosshairs versus height over ground, and actual height over ground of labelled Optical pod.

Fig. 7: Schematical Drawing of RAH-66 production design. Note rotating sensor pods: these were not incorporated in the PROTOTYPES which the ingame Vehicle seems to be modelled from. As such, it does not possess the main Optical pod that´s free to rotate, and has the PIV modelled in the stowed, rearward facing position.

While it would be very nice to see cameras from the nose, I don't think they have ever been that way in any of the arma series... more likely the camera was pushed juuust a but forward of the gun, so that you don't see the flash. In this way they only have to use one axis and rely on the accuracy the lineup gives.

Next to missing animas. Some of the optics aren't modeld at all....

and NodUnit arma 2's optics where modelt perfect. THe view was correct so for the animations and optic models. IF you would look left and down a bit you could actually see the barrles of the gun (AH-1Z Super cobra)

110% agreed. I am sure the actual aircraft designers would not place the optical camera where muzzle flashes would obscure/white-out the screen when firing. This would kill target acquisition, and make firing at night very difficult.
