It's more immersive, the default centered perspective feels a bit dull for infantry

I think it's great where the current location of 3rd view is at. Also considering your guy leans left and right, you can't have it over his shoulder heavier on one side then the other, or it really looks odd. And also with free look as a factor, your head moves separately from your body.
