Lack of sound options causes audio problems for those with certain 7.1 headsets.
New, LowPublic

Description

I have a G930 Logitech virtual 7.1 headset. Windows recognizes it as a 7.1 system. There is a switch on the headset that downmixes the 7.1 audio to stereo *on the headset*. This means that the game is putting out 7.1 sound. The problem I'm running into is that when the game is outputting 7.1 audio and I downmix to stereo on the headset, any directional sounds are on the right channel.

Now, I know this is not the fault of BI in the slightest, but if an option was added where you could pick between 7.1, 5.1, stereo, etc., this problem that affects what I'd imagine to be a very small set of players would be fixed. I don't know how much effort this would take to implement, but I thought you guys should know.

ArmA engine, if i recall correctly, simply "grabs" the windows output settings and uses those as output for the game

I agree. I have a Razer Tiamat 7.1 and have similar issues. ARMA's sound options seem to be very plain, and lacking.

Many other games have very detailed sound options that are very modular.

Yup ever time i play with my G930 headset it makes me wanna punch a baby.

ArmA 3 uses XAudio2+X3DAudio. This means that your game uses your Windows settings. Sound engine only handles up to 5.1 output, so that's why you might be having problems. This sound engine is very very bad, if you have proper headphones (not your crappy 7.1 lol headsets) you will have them set to stereo and the sound engine will only emulate 2 channels (left and right). This is where gaming audio has fallen to...

Agree BIS should go with better sound engine for A3. The one we have now is very limitating.

Many will be playing with decent headsets (for the microphone and chat commands), so good sound support is needed here. Most virtual 7.1s could play 5.1 so hope BI could implement surround sound options in the audio options.

I have a razor megalodon but the 7.1 virtual surround is useless in arma due to the sound engine. Stereo is the only support.

Sound is key. Please support surround
