Description

This is not a bug, but feedback on the workshop Browsing and Filtering.

Popularity & Sub count
Is popularity how many total times it's been viewed, downloaded or current servers using it? I'm guessing popularity is servers currently using it, which is fine overall. But as a default page it makes finding new POPULAR mods more difficult. It's made worse comparing it to the subcount filter, which has 11 of 12 items identical. The outlier is BI's own car sample mod. This could suggest popular is times downloaded, since it's likely people would download the sample, copy what they need from it, and unsubscribe from the mod.

Personally I'd have popularity be based on what servers have been using in the last 3 months. Also sharing those stats with mod creators could be fascinating, especially if it included analytics on what regions the servers were hosted and what modes were played.

Rating
Most rating systems are dogshit so lets solve the issue the workshop repeats. A mod with just 1 like has a 100% rating. Have mods be unrated until they have minimum 10 ratings, and are at least 24 hours old. Then, you can feed them into an new up and coming section perhaps, where they can attain a real rating that will be useful. Popular mods will have hundreds of ratings, so theyll be more accurate, but as it stands the rating filter is useless.

Recently added
Very useful for finding brand new or the sample mods, other than that, kinda useless. What would be better is time range searching. Newest and Oldest as is, but all sections should allow for searching Last 7 Days, Last Month, Last 3 months, Last 6 Months, Last Year. Let us find what new mods have been most popular recently, or even allow us to search a specific time range, like Month and Year. Could even be a workshop homepage that shows last months most popular new mods.

Name
Useful if mods in a series start with the same tag, permitting I'm willing to scroll through hundreds of pages to find them instead of searching the tag, but realistically a useless tab that could only be exploited if I chose to put an underscore at the beginning of all my mods so they'd be the first result. The search bar exists, name is useless IMO.

Tags
What tags mean and represent gets messy. If I select terrains tag, I want to see either new maps, or mods that directly impact a map like the winter modifier. Currently in the terrain tag is a colour correction mod, a test config with no description, and climbing trees. The last one is the closest I could see to being accurately tagged, but realistically it doesn't change the map, but the gameplay. More accurate tags would be vegetation and systems and features. It should be better outlined what each category represents and similar to rating, others should be able to suggest more accurate tags or report for mislabelled tags.

There's a filter for rated mods, which cuts the number of mods down by 1/3rd, so I imagine that means two thirds of mods don't have any ratings. I guess another reason rating filter is currently bad. What could help is having an option to view what mods are loaded when in a game, and rate them. Or perhaps at the end of a game, when debriefing, a side panel could select one of the mods loaded and ask a player to rate how they felt playing with that mod. Many would ignore it, but it might lead to some good mods being rated and buggy/unbalanced mods being downvoted.

Misc browsing gripes

As mentioned, an actual workshop homepage featuring recent top mods, and a showcase of a modding event like Make ARMA Not War, and perhaps some curated scenarios and collections would be great. Also perhaps a page promoting learning to create mods, with the samples listed and links to documentation and good community tutorials for different types of mods.

The workshop is currently paged with 12 tiles of mods. An option for list a scrolling list view with more per page would be great. I know its less controller friendly, but thats why it'd be optional.

An option to filter servers by specific mod or mods would be amazing. If I saw a mod I liked, being able to click a button and see what servers are currently using that mod would be amazing. Same as in the server browser or perhaps mod manager, being able to select mods you have installed and see what servers match would be great!

I was oblivious to the fact the workshop is also on Reforger's website for a long time. No where in game does it give me the option to open a mod's page in browser. I was also shocked to find the website pages had CHANGELOGS. Why are mods changelogs not visible in game? That's super useful information when a 3GB mod update has to download. The information between website and game should be identical, and minimum there should be a button to copy a mod pages link to clipboard to share within discords and what not.

Similarly, I wish I could see what other mods the same account has posted. Neither in game or on website can I click their name and see any other mods they have released. There is also no hyperlinks for promoting a creators main social platform, like a Discord or Bluesky. These things can be very useful for supporting or working with other creators.

I hope this helps and gives some ideas on how the workshop could be better improved. I might share this post in the modding discord and see if others have suggestions too. Modding is the lifeblood of ARMA and my hope is this unified mod workshop can be the best of any game. Right now it's messy and lacking, but these suggestions should hopefully help push it in the right direction.
