i'm mainly a DayZ PC player but i occassionally play the PS4 version, so i have a clear idea of what the sounds *should* sound like. on the Playstation version of DayZ, the audio playback is quite 'glitchy' in that a lot of sounds, particularly footsteps of other players or zombies but many other sounds as well including distant gun fire, 'pops' or 'clicks.' i have played on a PS5 and more recently now on a PS5 Pro and have used both my regular home theater for audio playback as well as a couple different pairs of USB headphones - the sounds are glitchy on any output device.
i have a hunch that people who don't also play the PC version might think this is normal, as sometimes the popping almost sounds intentional - for example, the popping in footstep sounds almost like a footstep sound in itself (if that makes sense) and the same goes for popping in distant gunfire. it *almost* sounds normal since distance gun fire DOES have a 'pop' type sound often, but i'm 100% sure the way they pop in the PS version is incorrect.
i consider this a major issue as it just sounds awful when you are e.g. in a busy area with a lot of zeds and players shooting at each other; sounds like someone's making popcorn! (i jest... but only slightly)
edit: there are numerous threads from the past several years on reddit and elsewhere where people have brought it up, such as this one with a video clip which highlights the issue very well - i can see, again, how this might seem normal since the popping glitch almost makes the foot steps sound like a different type of foot step sound effect, but it's definitely not supposed to sound like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/DayZPS/comments/193zps4/wtf_is_this_sound_i_keep_randomly_hearing_sounds/
