Whenever I pull my gun out and then try to restore it, it doesn't go anywhere or to it's original spot. It stays in my hands

I have tried to restore it by hotbarring it (to equip then unequip), try switching to a different weapon or item (tried sheathed knife, food in pouches and my other back gun), pressing y on the weapon to equip and trying to drag it while holding down the A button
