Left newly built gate locked with a code I had tested and used. Returned to no obvious signs of foul play. However the code is not what was set and isn't seeming to be a single button slip, it appears as though the whole code is different.

I have had this happen to me. The code would seem to change and we thought someone had raided and replaced it but later we tried the same code after a reset and or some time passed and the code worked again.
