VOIP audio is not directional
Awaiting internal Testing, NormalPublic

Description

I'm on the latest stable Xbox release.

VOIP audio seems to be mono and not come from any direction. All other sounds function normally to my knowledge, turning to face the sound of gunshots to locate their origin and scanning back and forth you can clearly hear the audio switch between left and right channels. In-game voice chat sounds like it's inside your head with no directionality. There also seems to be an issue with the volume varying with distance, though this was harder to verify with the players I encountered, volume seemed to be maxed out until you were nearly too far to hear, then volume dropped from 100% to inaudible within a difference of ~5 meters.

I am returning after not playing for around a year but I don't remember this issue when I played before, and have played on PC with fantastic directionality and volume-proximity relationship.

I think interacting with strangers via VOIP is a critical part of the DayZ experience in many ways, some of which are gimped by a lack of functional directionality and volume. I was pleasantly surprised to encounter a lot of players using in-game VOIP to communicate when I played yesterday which was not my experience before taking a break from the game. I hope this issue can be resolved in a hotfix and is just a bug related to the frostline update

Additional Information

Just wanted to add I would greatly appreciate any response from devs on this, even if it's just "not gonna happen". There is a lot of conflicting information online about this, with people claiming it is related to some Xbox VOIP policy, or that in-game voice was made directional in 1.13 then quickly reverted with a hotfix. Personally I remember VOIP on Xbox working the same as PC last year but I could be mistaken. Any clarification would help me out a lot. This feature is something of a deal breaker for me. I own the game on Xbox and PC and really prefer gaming on my couch with a controller, but if the voice chat on Xbox is not going to change I will play on PC. I just would like to know if this is a bug or limitation or intentional and if it may change at some point. Thanks for making such a cool game.

I really hope this is being looked into. I'd imagine it can't be too tough to fix if it's not in conflict with some Xbox live VOIP policy like I've seen some people claim. Proper directional VOIP would have a big impact on player interactions, could get some people out of party chat and might even reduce KOS a bit. Organic player interactions are a significant part of what makes DayZ special, and Xbox (and PlayStation?) players are missing out on part of the experience

switched to PC over it, hope the team addresses this at some point. I think anyone who's played console and pc versions of the game would agree this detracts significantly from the experience. no doubt would make no difference to the bottom line but console players experience would be improved if this was fixed
