Since boats are coming to play, when those boats run out of fuel, you'll be stranded if far away from the coast. A good way to help save the stranded folks is to add a paddle.

If you have a paddle in your hand and look at one of the sides, it should prompt you to paddle, but if you are on the left side, it should move you forward but also a bit towards the right [due to physics] and to the right side, it should also move forward but drift to the left.

This would be a great solution to any stranded boaters out in the ocean.

As for the boats, they should have attachment slots for paddles and jerry cans
