The P/U (AA) has the smallest target acquisition lock area in the visible view area vs other systems (Soldier AA, Cheetah). This requires keeping the crosshair almost directly on the target. The closer the target is the harder it is to maintain that small locking view area. If a player has issues with maintaining this tracking the lock is reset creating frustration.

CSAT - Place unarmed helicopters on a perpendicular path to player at various distances.
Launch mission, attempt to lock while target is perpendicular to player and observe how each systems locks onto a target. Take note of the size within the view area needed in reference to the players reticle aiming point to maintain the tracking lock acquisition.

Just checked. Yes. It seems the NYX has the same handicap. Trying to target something close traversing perpendicular to the player is difficult. Of course the AI have no difficulty with this.
I also noted that the laser seems to emit from the turret mount and not the EO pod. Maybe this is intentional?
