I am unaware if this is exclusive to Playstation. The sound of player footsteps are nearly nonexistent when within a close range. (0m-15m) more or less. Specifically, player footsteps can be heard out of those 15m as mere "Tip taps". This is the only sound cue that a player is nearby, which in turn is very difficult to hear. Though once a player has entered another players 15m, the "Tip Taps" disappear with close range footsteps not being able to be heard. (DayZ has never suffered heavy audio glitches in my time playing and I hope this is resolved when possible)
