It is very difficult to switch off the helicopter motor with the controller. For me it ends up with button smashing until it turns off.
Maybe it is a timing problem.

The controls are as designed to simulate ignition. The problem you might be having is that they are two different inputs.
To start engine you need to hold Left stick and hold X
to stop engine you need to hold left stick and click X (not Hold)
Can you please check and let us know if you experience is better now that you are aware of the above?
