Implementation of new "CQC-control-scheme" both for FPP and TPP for console DayZ
Feedback, UrgentPublic

Description

Hi, I wanted to make a suggestion for a new control scheme for FPP and TPP for controller which would make leaning much easier on a standard dualshock controller and would make gun fights feel much better.

Right now the problem is that leaning is on L1 and R1 and you have to hold the buttons. This means that you have to effectively use your index fingers to lean and the middle fingers to shoot and ADS which is very awkward to do. I will put my ideas for a "CQC-control-scheme" in "Additional Information".

Additional Information

Preface: I will refer to no ADS, no point shooting as neutral stance.

CQC-Control-Scheme (FPP):

L2 (toggle): point shooting

L2 (hold): full ADS

Make it that when you are in point-shooting-mode and then hold L2 to go into full ADS and then let go of L2, it returns to point-shooting-mode. When you go full ADS by holding L2 from neutral stance and then let go of L2, have it return to neutral stance.

L3, R3 (toggle) whilst in ADS or point shooting: lean left and right

Make it that when you are leaning right and then press L3, the character makes the full motion to leaning left. Same from leaning left towards leaning right via R3. This allows players to peak slim objects such as trees and pillars effectively from both sides.

Make it that when the player is leaning in point-shooting-mode and then goes into ADS, the leaning is still present in ADS. When the player lets go of L2 to return to point-shooting-mode, the initial leaning should still be present in point-shooting-mode.

Make it that when leaning left and then pressing L3 again, the player's view returns to the straight view. Same for when leaning right, press R3 to return to straight view.

R1 (toggle) whilst ADS: hold breath

CQC-Control-Scheme (TPP):

L2 (hold): point shooting
Letting go of L2 whilst in point-shooting-mode lets the player return to neutral stance.

L2 (toggle): ADS
Toggling Switches between ADS and neutral stance.

R1 (toggle) whilst ADS: hold breath

L3, R3 (toggle) whilst in point-shooting-mode or full ADS: lean left and right

L1 (hold) + pressing up on the D-pad (toggle) whilst in neutral stance: changing perspective from TPP to FPP and vice versa

Love your game, hope for many years to come!

This is actually an amazing idea as I've been struggling with the same control issue and find it very awkward as well- I would like to comment that the toggle lean (via L3 R3) is much easier, it is how Insurgency Sandstorm does it I believe. Also I'd like to maybe suggest that while in point shooting stance, if you were to hold L1 which would in normal stance allow you to move your head independently, that it would do the same in the point shooting or weapon raised position, this is similar to how Arma allows players to look around while holding their gun up, and is extremely useful.

I disagree with disabling the lean function for players with raised weapons, you should be able to run effectively and I think it makes sense to instead move the camera view toggle to the options menu and leave lean functions

Yes, that's a good idea actually. I would also like to keep the full functionality of the controls. I will edit these points into brackets and will mark them as sketches. My only thinking for disabling leaning in FPP point-shooting is that the player could be trapped in the point-shooting mode when encountering an enemy. I thought pressing L3 would be intuitive. On the other hand one would develop muscle memory for toggling L2 to cancel point-shooting. It's difficult to tell without testing.
Concerning changing perspective, maybe holding L1 + pressing up on the D-pad in neutral stance could feel good. This way players could change perspective on the fly in game.

I like that idea too, using a button combo to change views gives a lot more options
