Unable to Play DayZ on PS5 - BIOS Errors on GetServers & ExchangePs4AuthCode
Reviewed, UrgentPublic

Description

After downloading the latest DayZ update for PS5, I and many others are no longer able to play.

  1. When attempting to "Refresh Servers", we are seeing:
    • BIOS Error (0x00050017) - Communication Error, resource unreachable or unavailable ([ExchangePs4AuthCode] :: 0x8041013C)
    • BIOS Error (0x00050017) - Communication Error, resource unreachable or unavailable ([GetServers] :: 0x8041013C)

These errors fully prevent viewing server listings and joining servers, including official servers.

Steps To Reproduce

Both steps will generate the BIOS errors above. In the second set of steps, PS4 is called out as only PS4 users seems to be able to access the server listings and send invites (even though the invites lead to an error for PS5 users).

  1. Download the latest DayZ 1.21 update via PS5
  2. Launch DayZ on PS5
  3. Attempt to "Refresh Servers" for Official and Community

AND/OR

  1. Have a friend on PS4 send a game invite to the server they are logged into
  2. Attempt to join the server using the invite sent by the PS4 user
Additional Information

This only seems to impact PS5 players. I can confirm multiple people with PS4 are not suffering from the issues described.

The PS5s used for this test are all using the latest system version and feature releases for PS5, and the recent DayZ 1.21 release.

Event Timeline

raideongaming set Operating System Version to Playstation 5.

As a means to remove corrupted files from the mix, I and others deleted DayZ from each Playstation 5, rebooted, and then reinstalled DayZ.

As of this morning, the BIOS errors noted above continue to persist and prevent:

  1. Accessing "Official" server listings
  2. Accessing "Community" server listings
  3. Joining a session by invite from PS4 users

As of right now (and since the update), DayZ is completely unplayable on Playstation 5 (System Software: 23.01-27.20.00.05-00.00.00.0.1). I can confirm that prior to this update DayZ was working fine.

raideongaming changed Category from General to Error Message.

@Geez Any ideas on what could be the issue here? Checking back in today, and DayZ on PS5 remains completely unplayable due to the BIOS error and the errors noted above.

Hello raideongaming.
I will try to check with the team for any suggestions

Hello again.
According to the dev team:

x8041013C on PS means network timeout
Which is also why it says Communication Error
There's an issue with your network, or with the connection of the PS to the network, or the connection with the network to the BIOS.

It is possible that the occurrence of this after the update is just a coincidence and there is a problem on your network that has started to occur around the same time as the update.

Thanks for following up @Geez !

The dual 10Gbit fiber lines are measuring 9Gbit each (symmetrical) with a 2ms ping and 0 jitter coming through all routing equipment (Gateway => Switch => PS5/PC). When testing the same connection and routes on PC, I'm able to connect without any issues. The issues above are limited to PS5 as of the 1.21 update. All other PS5 games are working without any issues (I tested Rocket League, Fortnite, The Forest, and Red Dead Redemption 2 for comparison).

A friend brought his PS4 over and connected to my network and was able to play without any issues.

For context on the network setup, I am using Ubiquiti UniFi and the configuration is pretty basic.

Dream Machine Pro (Gateway/Router) => 10Gbit Switch => PC/PS5

IPS/IDS is disabled on the Dream Machine Pro; no inbound or outbound connections are blocked or filtered. Even when both IPS and IDS were enabled, prior to 1.21, all was working as expected.

Thank you.
So far the only thing that comes to our mind is, can you try to to reset your PS5 networking settings, and make sure the IP that is assigned to your PS5 is not shared with any other device on your network?

@Geez All devices on the network require a static (private) IP by default. I can confirm that no devices are using a private IP that has been issued to another device.

DNS is handled by the Dream Machine Pro and all devices connecting to the network use CloudFlare (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1) and Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). I've tried forcing one or the other, though whether I am using CloudFlare, Google, or the internal (private) DSN on the Dream Machine Pro, DayZ continues to fail.

@Geez I'm pretty confident that I've found the issue, though it raises a new concern.

When turning the Country Blocking option on and off in the UniFi Dream Machine Pro, depending on what else is occurring, the changes may be saved but not applied until the Dream Machine Pro is rebooted. Once Country Blocking was turned off and the Dream Machine Pro was rebooted, the errors went away and the server listings began to load as expected.

The concern here is that since Country Blocking was the issue, that would lead me to believe that the callback or "call home" feature in the game is calling to and relies on servers outside of the US exclusively; even for community servers that are deployed in the US.

  • Does Bohemia not have servers in the US for US-based players? From a networking perspective, that would impact latency quite heavily.

As an example of how this leads to latency, I've pinged a few servers in the US vs EU:

  • US
    • Chicago: 30ms
    • Dallas: 37ms
    • LA: 71ms
    • Miami: 31ms
    • NYC: 11ms
  • EU / Other
    • Frankfurt: 107ms
    • Hong Kong: 279ms
    • London: 90ms
    • Moscow: 133ms
    • Prague: 120ms

Thank you for the further info.

The game servers themselves for the US are in the US.
However, the list of the available servers is kept in one location outside of the US.
So to receive the list of available servers, you do have to allow non-US networking

Geez
