Cannot save terrain - I think things are being saved to the wrong layer
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Several users have reported that they can't save their terrain in the World Editor. No changes seem to stay. It was very fun doing 2 hours worth of work and losing it all. The top layer in the hierarchy has a $ at the front of it which seems suspicious to me. Time stamps for the following files have been updated when saving:

  • _default.layer
  • _Roads.layer
  • resourceDatabase.rdb
  • rokostrov.ent
  • rokostrov.ent.meta

However, I also have two files that were updated yesterday:

  • rokostrov_default.layer
  • rokostrov_Roads.layer

It looks like the project is looking to load rokostrov_default.layer but when it saves it, it saves it as _default.layer. Not sure why surface raster changes aren't saving though.

There was also an empty file called $Rokostrov in my project folder.

Same problem here. Happened first time yesterday (11th of May).

Had a 2 hours livestream while mapping.

Today all changes are gone. :( Sad.

Just tried it again with only changing 1 object: Delete a house, Hit "Save", Closing tools, Loading Map again -> House is back.

So no working at project currently possible.

Hello everyone.
Currently we advise to not store the world files into a root folder. Please let us know if the problem persists even upon doing so

Hi Geez,

using 0.9.8.64:

Having my MontanaWorld currently still in its main \Montana folder like this - saveing and loading up changes still dont work. Changes on the world (adding or removing objects) wont be saved/loaded.

Moving the MontanaWorld.ent into a subfolder like \World also does not work:

I too have been having this issue main error I get is "RESOURCES (E): Wrong&patched resource GUID in @"script" for property m_SourceWorldPath resource name @"worlds/Editor/Test/EditableEntityImages.ent", Any edits I make to my world, do not save. Would love some help if anyone has a detailed way to fix this issue.

I have also been having the same problem after a project migration to a new PC (same Steam account). Not sure if related to the migration or this "new" bug, as this worked prior to December for me.

In testing, moving from root has fixed the issue for me.

Geez claimed this task.

Issue should be fixed for the 0.9.9. version
