First Game Session: Thoughts and Improvments

Description

Purchased game along with 3 other associates, some overhead notes to highlight: game size is reasonable and hopefully will not bloat over time. Settings options are fairly limited with QOL features such as motion blur, UI scaling sliders/toggles not currently available.

Played for a 90~ min session including 2 runs : PCs vs AI & PCs vs AI vs AI. Major pain points while playing include the amount of lens flare/brightness produced by sun during the day, we were regularly flashbanged by the sun which might go over the concept of just having the sun in your eye. Another major point is the pathfinding of an AI operated Harvester. As and RTS eco is a major component and the time the AI adds to the cycle of travel->harvest->travel->deposit due to pathfinding in and out of deposit sites makes an inherent need for a PC(s) to operate the Harvester(s). If any pathfinding were to be optimized I'd argue that the eco units should have half (if not more) of that dev time as they are core to the experience of the game. On that note another eco unit should be added that should reward going for resource locations further away from starting location (ie. a rail-tank sized unit that need to anchor to harvest and un-anchor to move). Continuing on is the environment interaction, the weight of the vehicles and there associated armaments feels about right but when traversing a few interactions can be seen that makes maneuvering awkward. Sliding down hills and cresting over dunes in larger vehicles among the more obvious contenders.

Overall the bones of the game seem to built in the right place for the gameplay loop that is trying to be established and hopefully the polish will come with time. This is an interesting concept that I hope will bear fruit.
