If the leader of the squad dies in the mission, the mission will skip over a crucial part and the new command will run to the extraction before an extraction is triggered. Even if you clear the town, you will not be able to complete this mission.

You can try to run in as fast as you can before the commander, or try to shoot them in the legs to keep them from going in first. However all of this makes the mission not worth focusing on.
