With the new 1.19 Map Options, you can configure your server so that players don't need the GPS, Map or Compass to look at a map, which also can give players their location.
On PC you simply press M. There is no binding for console controllers.
Could I suggest press R3 & L3 (the sticks) at the same time, or perhaps a double click on the keypad. whichever direction was best.
This also could bring up the map on vanilla servers if the player has one in his inventory.
