The placing tent terrain check function made the tents useless in most forest territories. It denies the placement wherever there is a minor, barely noticeable slope, or the terrain texture meshes intersect one with another.

Currently is very difficult to find a good spot in the forest to place them just because of this.
I personally just abandoned the idea of using ones, and started using crates instead.
