While it sounds very rudimentary and I don't actually know whether this would work in a real scenario, being able to add (activated?) charcoal tablets to the filters to fix them sounds like an interesting idea. I have played the new experimental patch for a while and so far me and my friend found that the gas mask filters spawn in fairly limited numbers or with less than 50% remaining protection.
