If you try to take on an infected on the ice floes of Namalsk, whether melee (I tried with a splitting axe) or a rifle (I tried with a LAR), your axe/bullets go straight through them.

With the axe, I swung 6 times, and 6 times it went through the body of the infected without causing damage. With the LAR, I shot full auto and nothing hit.

Wolves and Bear hitboxes are working as expected.

Back on land, the infected are the same old easy to kill axe fodder that they have always been.
