I go into Steam library, click to play DayZ. The launcher then comes up, and I click "Play." My mouse looks like it's loading, but the game never shows up on the screen or my task bar.
I've checked my control panel, and it would appear the game is running. However, to a person it would appear like the game is not running.

I've tried nearly everything I've found on the web to fix the issue - verified game files via steam, uninstalled the game and reinstalled the game, uninstalled and reinstalled steam, updated my drivers, run the software as administrator, run compatible with Windows 8 - nothing has worked.

NOTE - I play Arma3 all the time, no issues.
