I do not see any sort of in-game warnings for Server Restarts or Server Shutdowns. Example: This morning I was playing DayZ and at approximately 5:30 AM Central Time, I was kicked off a public server. I went to Twitter@DayZ to see if there were any updates and come to find out, there was a planned server shutdown for a hotfix to be deployed.
There was no in-game notification of this shutdown and I am not always on Twitter at the same time that I'm playing the game. Since I got booted from the game, I lost my gas stove / cooking pot / gas can combo that was sitting on the ground along with the two beef steaks that were cooking inside of it. It was not there when the servers eventually came back online and I was able to log back in.
This is not the first time I've lost item(s) on the ground due to unannounced server shutdowns / restarts. I never see any sort of notification when there is going to be server maintenance, restarts or shutdowns for updates in-game. There should be a 30-minute, 20-minute, 10-minute and 5-minute server shutdown warning in-game so that players have time to "get their crap together" and log out without losing any progress.
