General impressions, glitches report and suggestions

Description

First of all, thank you so much for this wonderful game! It is super addictive and entertaining both when playing solo or PvE/PvP. I am an entirely new player of DayZ and I absolutely love it! 
My main idea was to report some glitches and suggest adding a new content to the game but I think it’s worth outlining my BEST IMPRESSIONS first:

  • UI is very intuitive. Comparing to another similar title which I have played - Scum - DayZ is way more convenient: quick access slots which number depends on the type of clothing you wear, the inventory management is really easy for the player yet fun to deal with;
  • Sound content and quality is amazing! I love how many various sounds can be heard: wind blowing, birds singing, immersive feeling of rain and storm, footsteps of running, walking and crouching, far shooting noises, changing magazines and loading bullets into them, those subtle sounds of wearing a gun on back, opening doors, wildlife noise, etc.;
  • Every item has its use, there is no actual garbage you can carry but everything you find can be extremely useful! Especially I appreciate how useful all the scopes can be because you can use them separately without attaching to a weapon - a fantastic feature!
  • The interactions between items, for example the fact that one can spill the water from a bottle into a pot and vice versa or the fact that one can patch a torn cloth like jacket or trousers;
  • The interactions with the world, e.g. I can wash my hands in a fountain or a well, I can disinfect them with alcohol or a spray;
  • The vast size of the map. I so much love when I have a lot of places to travel through, this is absolutely addictive for me and hardly anything does entertain me more than a huge open world;
  • The immersion: the character gets wet, soaked or even drenched in a rain or in water, it is super cool you have several stages of being wet and that it takes some time to dry off. Besides, I love that my character sounds cold when he is cold or sounds wounded when he is wounded or sick, I like that I can see my character’s breath all the time. In addition, you have to learn how to navigate and find the way back which looks exactly like in real life when you got no map and only a compass or the sky - perfect! Challenging yet fun. The same goes to the fact that I need to carry a log very slowly on my shoulder as it is quite heavy just as in real life.
  • Crafting. To me, the more crafting - the better. Recently, I have been discovering some basic base crafting and I find it so rewarding - please keep adding new crafting recipes! I will include some suggestions below in the suggestions section.
  • Visuals: I like that trees do not disappear after being cut down, the fact that logs and sticks stack slowly on the ground while cutting, not just when you finish it. I love how the appearance of items change when their state deteriorates. The dense grasses, bushes and trees look amazing too! The details of the equipment like the hiking backpacks. The true colours and high level of details on guns. I appreciate the far rendering distance.
  • Livonia DLC: since I am Polish I need to point out how nice it is to see polish names of the locations, buildings etc. I hope you are going to continue developing Livonia so that it will somehow be merged together with the Chernarus map and one will be able to travel between the two.

Whereas the above is only SOME of the features I find great, below you can find a LIST OF GLITCHES I have noticed in both the main game and the Livonia DLC:

  • Lighting: when one sets up a fire or drops another source of light, the lighting works incorrectly because one can see it for a moment but after changing the angle of view the lighting disappears including shadows, you turn around the camera and you can see the lighting disappears, you turn back around and it appears again, over and over. Sunlight acts the same too, at a moment you see it but when you turn around it disappears. Also, when zooming with a scope from a far distance into a source of light the lighting disappears too, it happens to me when I have an active barrel fire inside of a building and being far away I can see that something is lighting when in normal view (3rd or 1st person camera) but as soon as I zoom in with any scope, the light disappears. Moreover, when I hold a source of light in my hand, the shadow which my character casts does not reflect the thing I am holding in hand as if it was invisible (a glow stick for example).
  • Items. At some locations I placed down an item like a pistol and could not take it back again. Actually the same happens quite often for items already spawned on the ground - I can neither take them in hands nor directly into my inventory even though I keep pressing F as per visible options, the only workaround for this is rejoining the same server (quit and play again). The same bug occurs not only regarding the items spawned on the ground but to my inventory too, for example after a shootout I keep pressing F but I cannot load my weapon, neither can I load any magazine and, in fact, I cannot use any of my items, including food, medicine, scopes or drinks, nothing can be used and I need to reload my save. This happened in various locations (barns, houses). I have also experienced losing my entire backpack full of items just because I placed it down for a moment to realise that it is gone soon. Once it happened to me that my barrel had no more fuel in fact no more of anything and yet it kept firing, I could not even quench it by any means, it just kept firing until the server got restarted.
  • Sound. In Livonia, doors in some of the buildings make a very quite noise when being opened or do not make any noise at all.
  • Character. Sometimes the game does not recognise the fact that I have changed my character (not in the middle of a gameplay but in the very beginning), especially this gets annoying when I want to play as a male whereas I am spawned as a female. When I choose to respawn after being killed I get spawned as another gender. When you wear a ski mask together with a zimojka or any other cap, the textures of both are overlapping which makes it looks wrong, it should be fixed so that every combination of a mask and a cap will fit visually.
  • Options. The edge smoothing option resets each time I quit, can it stay on forever once a player enables it?

Steps To Reproduce

To reproduce the item interaction malfunction, you may want to shoot down several zombies, as many as you will need to change the magazine in your weapon, and then try if you can use your items or pick up any from the ground or from corpses.

Additional Information

Now some SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS:

  • World: would it be possible to add some underground tunnels or basements to the game? Some buildings seem like they can have an entrance to a basement. On the airfield you have those hangars looking like some sort of entrance to the underground, how about making it happen? At some other places one can find a trapdoor so how about making it openable? Furthermore, in Livonia you added ovens with openable doors where one can find loot inside, I thought you could do the same also for wardrobes, fridges and cupboards in all buildings. 
  • Items and weapons. A pan to fry food. A bottle of oil or animal fat to fry on a pan. Chips. Eggs to boil them in a pot or fry them scrambled on a pan. A craftable table and chair to actually sit on it and to still be able to shoot, eat and drink when seated. I also think that the player should be able to access the inventory when sitting or lying (interaction menu) because so far we cannot. Could you please make all hammers repairable by usual means like a duct tape? Can you add handheld watches to indicate the time? In addition, can you allow to repair tents with a duct tape or a sewing kit? The same goes to shoes - can they be repairable somehow?
  • Sound. Picking up items should have different sounds e.g. different for grabbing ammunition, weapons, bottles with water, canisters, medicine etc. Taking pills should make a proper sound of rattling to reflect the reality. When the player walks or runs in a soaked pair of shoes they should sound soaked too by making this specific squeaky sound just like in reality.
  • Visuals. When a cut down tree falls down, the rest of it should not overlap other surfaces like walls etc. but bend or get stuck in the middle of falling, hooked up on the surface it touches. Please add an option to decide where exactly place an item like in case of setting up a fence kit, by pressing LMB a player would see the item and be able to rotate it.
  • Weather. Have you thought of adding snowfalls and hailstones into the world? It would make the air much colder so that the player will need to either warm up by a fire or put on something protecting from low temperatures. Of course the surface will become more and more snowy and the snow will also appear on player’s clothing, roofs, animals etc. 
  • Stats and conditions. When you crouch and do not toggle the slower speed,  the water level is dropping faster as though you were running. In fact, as you crouch without holding shift you move at the very same speed so there should not be any more loss in the water level. In my opinion, different medical effects should stack with each other e.g. taking a multivitamin should work well with taking an antibiotic or tetracycline etc. just as in real life. 
  • Character. Why don’t you introduce some kind of character customisation to let us choose facial hair, hair type and colour, age, tone of voice, race etc.? 
  • Vehicles. Would it be possible to add some boats with oars to swim on it? Or some motor boats? Canoes? Adding drivable bicycles, motorcycles or choppers will be awesome too.
