When a player dies with a gun in their hands, sometimes it is not possible to pick that gun up at all. You can see the gun in the corpses hand but are not able to get it. Also when you cut the corpse up with a knife, all the loot on that corpse is being dropped to the floor except for the weapon in it's hands. The gun is also not shown in proximity when opening the inventory.
