When you log on to the server you will have a standard nickname, even if you tried to change it in the game menu you will see that it does not work and you will still be with the nickname "survivor". The same with customizing characters, however, went into the menu of the game and changed the character and accepted the changes you will spawn this person always until you exit the game.
