It's crazy how I kill a zombie and spend 10 seconds trying to find that 'sweet spot' to loot the corpse. You have to be practically standing on top of the body to loot it.

Additionally try looting shelves in hunting cabins - you need to go prone, hold w and spam LMB to even pick up the item.
