Recently, I've noticed periodic "dropping" of loot or other items while playing the game. What I mean is: My character will be attempting to pick up an item, or... is currently in possession of a large item that I can not store, such as a second filled backpack, fencing, sheet metal, etc. Sometimes I see is that the loot will literally disappear when my character attempts to pick up or store the item. Never to be recovered.
