Base raiding ideas
New, NormalPublic

Description

Hello,

I only want to keep this short. I have had some ideas for balance to base building. All of this assumes in future you will need a vehicle to transport wood logs/planks and sheet metal in quantity. With this in mind it will take hours and a group to get a fence or two up but it can be broken down in seconds. While it is realistic that it is much easier to break something than make something it is undesirable from a game play perspective as we can not be online all day as though this was real life. I have work and as such it would be nice that other people must commit similar or more time to break in than I did to make my base. This also leads to clever building techniques.

Wood tier:

  1. Requires multiple hatchets/axes per piece to break. 2 minute action per cycle. Breaks a pristine hatchet/axe per action cycle. Requires 3 hatchets/axe per part. So 3 pristine hatchets/axes to break the 'wood down' and 3 more to break the 'base down' to gain access through a wall. This way people can eco raid you and savvy raiders will bring enough tools via a vehicle and will also bring tape and sharpening stones to help reduce hatchets/axes needed. Numbers of hatchets/axes needed a rough idea. Their durability damage could vary base upon axe. So bad to good: hatchet to wood axe to firefighters axe.
  1. Chainsaw. A chainsaw can saw through both the wood up and down as well as the base up/down of one wood fence with a full can of gas. So a refill will be needed per wall. So it is much, much faster than hatchets but it comes with a lot of noise and you need to have/transport the fuel needed. This will be the top raiding item of this tier.

Metal tier:

  1. Requires multiple sledgehammers per wall. Same as the hatchet idea above except instead of 3 you will need 5 hammers per piece and it will have a 5 minute action cycle per piece. This may seem high but that is because I think you should need explosives if sheet metal is going to be as hard to collect en mass as I believe it will be in future. Also you can not fix the sledges so you need to fully commit to having that many. Long and tedious but someone can eco raid you if they plan and have the drive.
  1. Explosives. Absolute high end, rare as can be, explosives. These should be hard to find. Lowest possible chance at heli crashes only and possibly also hidden in tisy once there is a need for the rad suit there. One explosive can level a metal fence instantly. If placed precisely between two fences it can destroy both. Condition of the explosive could dictate if it blows too early or if it does reduced damage perhaps. Electrical kits to repair the explosive possibly? Now this may seem too easy. But a well resourced group will have multiple layers of walls no doubt and this will inspire clever building practices as you will be accounting for breaches.

These are my ideas. All numbers are rough and just to give an idea! Base building in this game could be amazing but it needs risk v reward and just general balance looked at. It should be as hard to break as it is to make. But time and dedication will get you in. I think these ideas mean anyone can raid anyone if they have the determination. It also adds incentive for would be raiders to have base to store their spoils and also to stockpile tools or a vehicle to raid. So it will drive people and give them objectives if they wish. Just my two cents!
