When you have poked holes into a barrel, turning it into a Fireplace barrel, and have filled it with fuel and kindling, looking at it gives you the option to "Take Fireplace" or "close/open lid". When you press "take fireplace", the barrel is then converted into a regular fireplace, and the original barrel seizes to exist.
