Random. Game is playing fine. Stop to loot, put items in tent, fight zed, running across a field etc, seems to be nothing obvious that triggers it. Char starts sliding. Cannot stop the slide. Can change directions and not run, char will constantly keep sliding at a decent pace not unlike a sickly man at a good jog until i relog. Tonights two slides lasted more than five minutes before i was worried i may end up back at the beach so i relogged. One was twenty minutes in, the other an hour in.
