Players not visible behind cover
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

In this thread I would like to point out a possible "desync" of players near cover / objects.
In this image (1#) you can see clearly the tracer of the player that is hiding behind the rock coming at me: (the viewer)

Though from the Postion the player is right now, he should not be able to shoot me, as his gun is far behind the rock.
In this image you can see that the source of the tracers and the muzzle smoke (marked in red) is clearly above the head of the shown player (outlined in Blue) (2#):

In this image the player is not even visible at all (3#):

Again not visible (4#):

Here you can even see that it is possible to get a hit on the given player even though he is not visible (5#):

This situation occurred multiple times with enemies hiding behind H-Barriers, Rocks, Wreck on medium distance.
Thus I would like to clarify the situation on this problem, is it intended, is it acceptable?
In theory you could just move to the next cover to make the enemy move to solve the problem.
As in real life it is possible to see somebody without being seen, I don't mind it much.

I just wanted to report it here as it seemed to be an unwanted behavior.

After some testing, Conclusion:
https://youtu.be/Z_q8VJczTDQ
This issues is an LOD based issue and will probably not resolved.
Over distance the rocks are being simplified. thus losing shaped and concealing the player that is hiding behind it.

Its a big issue for a close combat game, as it can be easily abused and the player wont even know about it :(

The only way to prevent it would be to obscure those rocks with objects or to remove them.

Unless you are having a great idea how to change the LOD algorithm..., this topic can be closed

Have you tried to change the scene complexity manually, to get over the Ultra setting and see if it interacts with the LOD at long distance ?

@EricR
Well im already using sceneComplexity=1.800.000
and changed it to sceneComplexity=18.000.000 no change.
and later to sceneComplexity=9e+009; but at that point some of the mid range models are starting to bug out when zooming in and out.
and that still had no impact on the lod shapes....

but was worth a try

I had the same results on my low-end rig, but was wondering with better graphics if this would have changed.
I tried with 1 800 000 (default for ultra), 2 400 000 and 3 600 000.

*Of course you set the file to Read-only ?

This issue should be fixed. We tried to improve it much as we were capable.
