Black Screen Crash
Acknowledged, NormalPublic

Description

While playing on non-modded Arma 3 multiplayer servers several of my friends and I experience random crashes. The only way to recover from the crash will be to ctrl-alt-del and logoff the windows user. We are not able to minimize the black screened Arma, nor bring task manager to the front. From a group of six people experiencing this issue we have found the only common denominator is that we use windows 10. Our hardware and background software are diverse, so I do not believe that is a factor. For the sake of testing I personally installed a fresh copy of windows 10, up-to-date manufacturer drivers, steam, Arma 3 and its dependencies. The black screen crashing continued. The crash can occur after 10 minutes or 10 hours, but will always happen eventually. I have attached a zip of all RPT logs, Dumps and XML exports of related Windows Events.

@CptGooch, try all of the possible solutions listed here.

Does the crash only occur in multiplayer?

Hi,

Try to delete your profile folder (create a backup) a try to start the game.

The file yourprofilename.vars.Arma3Profile must be deleted.
Path: C:\Users\*username*\Documents\Arma 3

Also, did you all try to verify game cache integrity?
Try to run some SP mission and check if the issue still persist. Problem is in your Arma3.exe so I recommend you to re-download your game data or check if your GPU is up-to-date.

@Jawsh, I have tried all the solutions one by one that you linked. No Change. As I stated in the bug, this is for multiplayer only.

@Alwin, All affected users have verified game cache integrity. No Change. I have tried deleting my profile. No change.

I now have another friend who is having the issue on Windows 7 64bit.

@CptGooch, does the crash occur only when playing the Abeloth.V1d (Altis Life) mission? Would you be able to try playing an official multiplayer scenario such as End Game or Zeus and see if the game still crashes?

Another option is switching to and playing on the profiling game branch. After downloading new data verify the integrity of the game cache.

• profiling branch (special performance + profiling build - requires access code: CautionSpecialProfilingAndTestingBranchArma3), alternative download of needed binary possible from Dwarden's dropbox

Tried Both the Performance 1.66 exe on Server and Client Side. No Change. It does seem linked to just Abeloth. Also tried disabling all BE filters, and setting MaxCustomFileSize = 0. No change. I'm on Dwarden's Discord now.

@CptGooch I also have this issue intermittently. I have found that also ALT+F4 will cause the game to close in this state, leaving you with a black screen and ARMAs game cursor. The only way to close is to restart or log out.

Arma 3 memory usage at crash always below 2.5GB, so not a mem leak.

@CptGooch Here is the list of errors related to Arma3.exe from your RPT. The most important error is .cfg (config file) and network sync error. Try to repair your game data files by re-installing Arma3. Next problem is video memory space. Run Arma3>Open Task Manager>Check background processes. You can relocate your game data file to another folder or SSD if you have it. The last thing that you can try is to uninstall another unusable or old games, programms and files to release some more space.

With Jawsh we have recommended to you almost all possible solutions and there isn´t much another things what can we recommed next. MP servers tend to be relatively unstable.

re-installing Arma3 - No Change
relocate your game data file to another folder or SSD (I have one) - No change
uninstall another unusable or old games, programms and files to release some more space (I reformatted with just Arma and its dependencies) - No change

Here are more Logs

I the new rpt is Kernellbase.dll fault, so you can try to repair rhis file.

The issue has occured in case of your registry libraries (kernelbase.dll) or low video memory space.

KernelBase.dll is external DLL which allow multiple software programs to share the same function. For example, the Windows is launched on your PC and you decide to play Arma 3. DLL is non active until you launch Arma 3 which will be written to your memory.

Errors KernelBase.dll may be associated with damage or outdated of device drivers. Drivers can be one day operate without a problem and the next day not. The good news is that you can always upgrade the device driver to solve the problem DLL.

You can use Windows update tool or GPU driver updater provided by developer. KernelBase.dll is often related with HDD space or another discrepancy there. Sometimes, the culprit is any virus so it´s good to scan whole computer.

I have no problem waiting. Most of the time the users get a black screen crash there is no log. The RPT just stops, and users are forced to logoff or do a hard reset.

If the black screen persist, I recommend to use Windows update, update GPU drivers or scan PC due to harmful programs. Some player has any kinds of trojans which cased the crash and so on.
Re-installing Arma 3 should be helpful too.

Alwin, multiple PCs and users and reformatting and everything else we have done above has already ruled that out.
