PCML/RPG: low point of impact never blows up a vehicle. Related to the ticket "PCML point of impact is too low". Build 1.62.137494
New, NormalPublic

Description

I assume that to produce a one shot RPG blow up of the vehicle the engine calculates the amount of damage and/or a distance from the impact point to the vehicle/center/critical components. When the rocket/missile hits the bottom part of the APC frontal projection the point of impact and/or amount of damage is too low. To describe how it looks like - it seems in a bottom half of the frontal projection the point of impact is set the the vehicle VR block which is too far from the vehicle critical components. For some reason it does not affect the upper half of the frontal projection and it is possible to manually imitate a top attack and blow up the vehicle with one missile. The overall result: it renders RPG/PCML useless in game as in a controlled environment it takes 3 RPGs/PCMLs to blow up a target. At a regular difficulty levels an APC kills the shooter before he's able to blow up APC.

The most visible effect is when a target is above the shooter. It obscures the vision of the target to some extent. Though even a shooter and a target being on the same level produces the same effect.

  1. The range is 300m
  2. The shooter is at the "zero" level.
  3. The target is on a two 20*10*8m VR blocks at the far side of the blocks.
  4. Target faces the shooter.

Tested with Gorgon and Kamysh, RPG and PCML.

Results: The probability of a one missile kill is extremely low for RPG and PCLM with manual targeting. And it's absolute nil in PCML lock-in mode (see the ticket "In a lock-in mode PCML point of impact is too low"). Theoretically it's possible to blow up the target with one missile. But it takes a stationary target and extremely careful manual aiming to imitate a very precise top-attack.
