I climbed the stairs of a hunting tower and my character was still holding the rifle. I can zoom in through it and I can shoot, but I cannot reload and I cant drop it or change it for another item.
I really dont want to lose my character because of this. How can I get rid of rifle? Restarting didnt help

or to throw your weapon away with 'G' and relog.

If you relog you will see the gun may not be in hands. If you exit the game it may show a memory reference error can not be written to.
This is part of the desync issues players are having in all servers.
I had the exact same issue, and sure enough it had to do with the desync issue. Sometimes you warp backwards, like a last known save to the hive.
Things like weapons, items and pots get stuck in your hands. It appears and looks funny with a weapon on the hands. It is not actually there but the UI we see still holds the gun in your hands and nothing will cancel this problem.
Relogging is the only real way to fix this issue, until the devs patch the desync issues.
