Main Branch -1.6.136470: Missing A3_Characters_F_INDEP
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

With one of the last updates, we seem to have changed the core units that used to be under A3_Characters_F_INDEP or A3_Characters_F_OPFOR. now when your sqm is built they all appear to fall under A3_Characters_F now.

If you attempt to load one of these past missions into Eden, you are unable and get a warring about a missing addon:

21:32:45 Missing addons detected:
21:32:45 A3_Characters_F_INDEP

Understand that with the new updates, make things more easy and have all the core units under one single root class, but if you have binarized the sqm with a past Eden save, it makes things more difficult to edit and recover that mission.

Eden needs a way to allow you to remove these units from mission, or easy way to de-binarize the mission file.

Also seeing this for A3_Soft_F_Gamma_Offroad, again can't load older map into Eden. If your going to remove or rename base class's like this a better option within Eden would be nice. Even if its just to remove the now not installed content.

Hello,

thank you for the feedback.

Just to get few things straight, are you trying to load older 3D editor mission or are you trying to import an older 2D editor mission into the 3D?
Would it be possible that you send us that mission? You should be able to upload a ZIP file with the mission here by drag&drop into the comment or you can upload it to some free file sharing service and paste a link for the file here.

In the meantime, you should be able to workaround this issue by downloading a legacy (previous, in this case 1.58) version of the game via Steam That way you can open the scenario and save it again non-binarized.

Please try to provide the mission file so we can look into what might be wrong.

Thank you

Hello Razazel, thanks for the reply.

I am trying to load several missions I had built before the last major update, but since the update am unable to load into the Eden editor. Thanks for the info about the legacy version, I had seen the notes about that and may end up using it, but overall we really could use a better way to handle this within the editor if at all possible to save us mission makers a lot of steps :)

So it appears with the last major update, I am going to guess it was part of the work adding in Icon's for units within the editor and doing work to prepair for the next map maybe, several base units were changed.

Now the class's that are having issues are not part of any mod packs I use, but rather are some of the core units that have been in the game. And I understand why they maybe needed to do this change, don't have issue with that, just the way Eden is handling it.

As a example:

21:41:02 Missing addons detected:
21:41:02 A3_Boat_F_Civilian_Boat
21:41:02 A3_Soft_F_Truck
21:41:02 A3_Soft_F_Gamma_Offroad
21:41:02 A3_Soft_F_Gamma_Quadbike
21:41:02 a3_soft_f_quadbike

So in the example above I had used one of the default civilian boats, truck, quadbike ect, so the above base class's were added as addon's to that mission file. Now with the changes that appear to have occurred Eden is unable to open the mission as it thinks I am now missing a mod.

Understand what this check needs to be done, but possibly Eden could give you a option to remove the units or objects that require that addon, thus allowing you to still recover a mission with worst case several units or objects now gone. Seems a better option then your entire mission no longer loadable.

Hello,

the change was actually applied with this in mind so loading older missions shouldn't have been a problem. This is also why I asked for the mission file, since you have one that is not being loaded as usual, it will be the best candidate for successful repro and should help us to get a better picture about what might be wrong.

The only thing that currently comes in mind is that during the update some files did not update correctly and are missing or corrupt. In such case it would be best to verify integrity of the game cache via Steam (it is recommended to do so after every bigger update).
How to: Steam > Arma 3 > right-click > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache
(But then again can't promise that it will solve the problem, still worth a shot though).

If you can, please, try to send me the mission file(s) that are problematic. If you do not want to share the mission publicly (upload or send a download link here) you can post me a link for the download on our forums using a Private Message (my username is the same there).

Thanks

Well did not expect that, looks like it was caused by a issue in CBA with the update Razazel, sorry could not test without CBA as the mods that are part of my maps use CBA. Really did not expect that with the error from the RPT. Got a CBA update last night and no issues loading these maps since.

Anyway, sorry to waste your time on this. Can close :)
