Manned Suggestion: Radiation shelter structure which is also a bed / save point.
New, WishlistPublic

Description

A bed structure which is an enclosed capsule and a structural component to fit into buildings. Shields from radiation.

PHYS DESCRIPTION:
2x1x1 outpost module with an oven door style hatch on a 2x1 side. Unlike other structures this one is worn and a bit dirty on the inside.
Impossible to 3d print, or very very high material cost due to its value and density to block radiation.
It is supplied as a removable part of the lander but requires lifting equipment to remove due to its weight.
Inside one of the status monitor screens is inbuilt to be viewed from sleeping position.

WHY IT EXISTS / PLOT POINTS:
This structure would have been used on the transit vehicle to shelter from solar storms on the journey so it looks lived-in and slightly shabby. Astronauts spent as much time as possible in these to reduce their lifetime radiation doses. The status monitor presumably was used for entertainment programs too, as well as reference materials (help files, save menu etc).
It is portable because these heavy items would have been incredibly expensive to get to orbit so they are designed to be used in all stages of the mission except for earth-return where geological samples would provide shielding. It was moved from the transit vehicle to the lander for use on the surface too.
It is so heavy that it requires the crane to move which forces progression through the technologies before the player can shift it from the lander into their base.
The player survived the crash because they were in their shelter for the landing. The pilots and people required to operate the lander died because they were not as protected.

MAIN GAMEPLAY POINTS:
Making the radiation shelter bed the only save point is inconvenient at first, heightens sense of vulnerability and ensures people develop base infrastructure before venturing further. Exploration feels more risky when you can't save in the field.
Adds plot points and sense of achievement for players once they can move it into their base.
Increases player emotional engagement through contrast - safe little place in very hostile world.
Adds flavour - makes part of the world look lived-in rather than freshly fabricated.
