Just trying to connect to any existing ROVER vehicle will crash with this message (see attachment)

This did not happen before this latest update. The crash text box displays and if I alt-tab to game screen it is all white and I hear the sounds of waves crashing onto a beach (very strange). So then I tried to land a new vehicle (a rover) instead of connect to an existing one and the game hung the moment the craft hit the surface of mars. Giving up at this point as I don't want to re-start a new game.
