Tech level progress
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Is there any plans to implement some sort of progress bar or something similar refering to the tech level, so we can see how far we have progressed on the current tech level, and how much xp/tech whatever you want to call it, is needed to reach the next tech level.

I have attached an image of what i mean.it is circled in red.
obviously this is just a quick mock up,
thanks

I would like to see this too. Think that shouldn't be hard to implement.

Well, the tech level increase is tied to specific mission. I see no simple way how to visualize this in form of progress bar.

So this is not possible without reworking the tech system at all.

Is it not even possible to have the tech(progress bar)update at the >>>end<<< of each mission? at the moment we have no indication whatsoever how far we have progressed on a current level, and as we get higher up the tech levels, the longer it takes to achieve the next level, would be nice to say, "hm, i think i will just get to tech 8 before i go to bed" at the moment we don't know if we are even close to a certain level, could it take and hour, 3 hours, 5 hours? who knows?
thanks for reading.

I got to lvl 7 pretty quick, but at the moment I'm working hard for hours and hours and still haven't reached lvl 8. I really want to know how long I'll have to take measurements and photos of rocks until I'm there.

And what do you mean by "tied to specific mission", Rudy? It doesn't make sense at all. Do you mean we can only level up when we did a specific mission? That would be really the opposite of what everyone expects from this game.

Edit by dev:As for Tech 7 goes, it is main level for medium rover so unfortunately you will have to stick with it almost until the end Kaiser.

Yeah, that really doesn't make any sense at all, surely every mission you do should have some level of importance to your tech level progress? And then it would be very easy to implement a progress bar into the game I would imagine.

It works like this - when you finish certain task it will trigger tech level increase by set amount of points (usually 1). Unfortunately there is no function which measures amount of task between tech levels in game.

You can see for yourself how it works if you try the in game editor or open scenarios in notepad.

You guys will figure it out, there's always a way, you just haven't thought of it yet is all ;-)

There really does need to be some kind of feedback on a players progression though as it just becomes a level of annoyance to the game that detracts from the overall experience. You can see from the votes for this how important the community views it.

Anyway, you guys are good, you'll find a solution.

Ok I get it, I finished a specific mission now and advanced to level 8. I won't spoil it for everyone but it has to do with one of the steam achievements. You get that one, and you'll get to level 8. So it only depends on yourself to do the right mission. It is mildly annoying, so I welcome any change to this mechanic. But I agree, you guys are good, and you'll find a better way.

After careful evaluation, the system will be re-worked, this means it will not work in the way it does now. More info soon, though this will be addressed come next month.

yay, awesome, thanks!
