You can store items in the cooking pod for a space of 4 slots. The cooking pod requires 4 slots so this seems to be ok.

But after you attach it to a gas stove you only use 2 slots.

You can also move the gas stove around in your inventory when the cooking pod is full of items. I remember that this was not possible in previous versions.
