There is a few chicken coops you can search for feathers along the coast... players are having problems picking apples and finding food on full servers, so maybe a few more chickens by the coast would make the initial start to survive a bit fun and maybe a bit more challenging rather than waiting for a chance to find and apple...

Could not kill the chicken with fire axe. I tried and tried and yeah I gave up.
I hope in future you can set up animal traps and keep animals in a cage or in a paddock/fenced off area, if you like free range lol.
some cows are good for milk so If you found a cow and fenced it in and went to milk it, a cow that doesn't produce much milk, would be like picking apples and not finding one lol
