My 2 friends and I logged off a session last night on Skalisty Island ( only us in the server/ no zombies around) and logging back in today and my 2 friends have their characters reset for no reason.

Hello queball,
Thank you for sending us your feedback regarding this issue. Unfortunately, this problem is a known issue that has previously been reported. The devs are aware of the problem related to character save loss and they'll be working on fixing it.
In order to minimize the risk of losing your gear after a server restart, it is recommended that players wait until a couple of minutes have passed by according to the time on the restarted server before reconnecting with their characters.
