The game doesn't install/open
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I think it began when I tried to install the experimental. I try to open the game, and it pops up with the usual windows message asking permission to edit the disk (which is fine) but once I click yes, it doesn't continue past it. It keeps looping through that: between the steam window saying the game is opening, and that message. I've tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling several times. I've also tried selecting the experimental version, but trying to run that results in the same loop.

Hi fishflake,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Could you attach a screenshot of the error message that pops up please?

Thanks,
JStewart

It loops between a windows permission screen and the small steam window that says launching a game. When I click no or exit out of the permission screen, this error shows up (I added a picture).

Just to be on the safe side, could you try veryfying the integrity of the game cache?

  1. Start Steam and right click on DayZ in your game library (make sure that the game is not running).
  2. Select the tab labeled "Local Files".
  3. Click on the button labeled "Verify integrity of game cache...".
  4. Start DayZ once the process is complete.

I've tried that several times before and it doesn't help. I did try it once more just to make sure :P

The only other option that I can think of is uninstalling the game, and also deleting and DayZ related documents (mainly the cfg, and DAYZPROFILE files). That way everything will start fresh.
I don't particularly want to try this as I not sure exactly what it will do.

EDIT:
I tried removing the DayZ folder in Documents, but it didn't help. (I just moved the folder somewhere else).

Alright, problem solved: I fixed it.
I went into the DayZ game files, specifically BattlEye stuff and started both of those services in the folder (I'm not sure which one was actually needed or if both were).
I also changed the permissions of the DayZ and DayZ_BE applications to run as administrator.
I'm guessing it was the BattlEye service that wasn't running. Anyway, the game opened so I can finally play again!

That's good to hear :) I'll close the ticket for now then. Thanks for getting back on the issue.
