Experimental won't launch, throws error message box: Error compiling pixel shader PSNonTLHeatHaze:0
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

When i switch over to experimental and run it...

The game makes to launch, the screen goes fullscreen/black, then it dies and produces a small error box:

Error compiling pixel shader PSNonTLHeatHaze:0

and the game closes before fully opening. I have tried reinstalling dayz, and removing the 'dayz' folder from my documents in the hope it would rebuild it on launch.. But the game doesn't launch on experimental.

Hello Stilton,

To begin with I would recommend that you try to verify the integrity of the game cache:

  1. Start Steam and right click on DayZ in your game library (make sure that the game is not running).
  2. Select the tab labeled "Local Files".
  3. Click on the button labeled "Verify integrity of game cache...".
  4. Start DayZ once the process is complete.

If the problem persists, please check your "C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ" folder and see if crash dumps are created (.RPT, .mdmp or .bidmp files). If this is the case, please pack the entire DayZ folder into a rar archive and attach it to your ticket.

Thanks,
JStewart

Hi JStewart,

If you read 'Additional information', you will note the first thing i tried was your suggestion of steps 1-4.

i will attach the requested crashdumps

Ah, pardon. I missed that. As soon as we have the dumps, we'll be able to investigate further.

Hmmm... i have resolved this issue.

I had renamed Dayz.exe to Arma3.exe in order to force Dayz to use the arma3 SLI profile.
..For some reason, steam was launching that arma3.exe instead of the Dayz_experimental.exe

I'm not sure if you devs are aware of this behaviour, but that's what was happening
(i noticed because the dumpfiles getting created were arma3.rpt - etc)

So my 'issue' is fixed, i'm not sure if this 'loading the first exe in the folder' is intended behavior though, so i'm replying here with the cause/solution...

Thanks for getting back on the issue Stilton, that's good news :) Just in case similar issues arise in the future, we'll have this information in hand.
